Do I need a new hot water heater?

Author: I ran 2 loads of laundry 2 days ago on a hot cycle. Since then, I have no hot water running at all anywhere in my house. The water heater is a 40 gallon electric and has been here since 1979.
Up until 2 days ago, the hot water was perfect.
I replaced my thermocoupler on my water heater and it still does not stay on? What do I need to fix now?
I replaced the thermocoupler on my gas water heater. It will stay one temporarily then shut off again. Is it the burner that needs to be replaced or the thermostat?

What Sized Generator do I need?
I need a generator for emergencies to run the essentials in my house if the power goes out.
I may never use it, but want to have it just in case. I don’t want to break the bank, but I also want to be able to power my sump pump, refridgerator, and a few other things.
